Showcase \o/

I didn't really know what to expect going into showcase. Everyone makes it sound so scary, but it isn't. While dress rehearsal was very long, I had a good time. I'm not terrified of the unknown anymore.
It was nice to hear from Peter Sargent that colleges need us, not so much the other way around. He also told me that Webster would love to have me (yay!). I'm actually thinking about becoming a stage manager now. I love that I could work wherever, especially if I managed for one of the Cirque du Soleil shows. I guess showcase gave me an epiphany.
I honestly don't know what I would do differently. I feel more prepared for the application process now. Thanks, showcase.

Ballet! Yay!

I'm so glad we're doing basic ballet. God knows my technique could use some brushing up. I haven't been in a ballet class in over a year. It's nice to be reminded of little things or technique words that I've forgotten.

Ballet is the core of dance. We're starting with it because the same rules carry over into other styles of dance. Jazz is basically parallel ballet! You just can't have a musical without dance. We'll improve as an ensemble with this basic training.

Performance Day!!

Rehearsal on Friday ended on a high note!

We did some magic!

Arts in the Park - our debut!

Our performance venue
We're coming up on our first performance as an ensemble. Wow. Scary stuff. I am excited to perform though! I feel like Friday's rehearsal tied up some of the loose ends, and we're in a (fairly) good place. It's been a while since I've been onstage. I spend most of my time now in all black either in the booth or FOH. I'm looking forward to being back out in front.
I'm only worried about the stage itself and transitions. Those were left to the last minute, but I think we'll be okay. I hope the stage is a whole lot bigger than I'm imagining. I don't want to be cramped with acrobatics in "Magic To Do" and the dance break in "Transylvania Mania." That could be disastrous. I'm also hoping that nobody gets hurt on the concrete stage. It could be a recipe for disaster, but I'm praying it isn't.
I know that most of the theater faculty will be there, and I'm nervous. What if we do a terrible job? We'll never be taken seriously. I just don't want my credibility (what little I have) to go down the drain. (I highly doubt that we'll suck, but still.)
At the beginning of the year, I didn't know most of the people in this class very well. During this rehearsal process, we've become a close-knit ensemble. We have the potential to do some amazing things this year!

DAR #2

We're polishing choreography and music for "Run Freedom Run" and learning choreography and music for "Transylvania Mania" and "Magic To Do."
The alto part in "Run Freedom Run" has proven to be difficult, but I'm getting it now. I've really enjoyed dancing every Tuesday and Thursday.
I'm looking forward to our performance at Arts in the Park. I only hope we're given enough time to do all that we're preparing.

Character Analysis - Natalie Goodman from "Next to Normal"

1. Natalie Goodman; 16; doesn't have many friends, later dates Henry; pale and overworked or frazzled
2. Natalie feels like she's screwed up and invisible because of her dead brother.
3. High-strung, overachieving, talented, confusing, anxious
4. Natalie worries about and resents her mother Diana but tries to impress her; grows to love Henry; loathes Gabe, the brother she never met; and has an average relationship with her father, Dan.
5. Dan loves his daughter as a father, Henry loves Natalie in a romantic sense, and Diana is somewhat uncomfortable around her but gives her the love she can.
6. Natalie is largely neglected by her parents. Diana is stuck on Gabe, and Dan spends his time taking care of Diana. Natalie shares the neglect with her boyfriend Henry. Diana's ECT treatments work for some time, but when she remembers Gabe, she leaves Dan and Natalie on their own.
7. Natalie is angered and hurt by her parents' actions, so she pours that energy into music. The piano lets her make sense of things.
8. Talented, hurt, tense, prodigy, perfectionist, accomplished, ambitious, nervous, private, rebellious
9. She has her odd relationship with her family and her romantic relationship with Henry. He's her first adolescent love. Natalie doesn't have any close friends.
